J. B. Bury (1861–1927) was an Irish historian and classical scholar, known for his work on the later Roman Empire, Byzantine history, and ancient Greece. He edited an expanded edition of Edward Gibbon's *The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire* and wrote *A History of Freedom of Thought*.
