Ambrose Bierce (1842–1914?) was an American writer and journalist known for his sardonic wit and Civil War fiction. He is best remembered for "The Devil's Dictionary" and stories like "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge," and for his mysterious disappearance in Mexico.
