William Elliot Griffis

William Elliot Griffis (1843–1928) was an American clergyman, educator, and author who lived and taught in Japan during the early Meiji era. He is known for his writings introducing Japanese and East Asian culture and history to Western readers, including "The Mikado's Empire."
